Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save lives every year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs or a suicide crisis. Stephanie will talk about this important training and how we can bring a class to the Senior Center. Hurricane Season Safety and 911 Basics Tuesday, July 14 / 10:45am, Gary Tillman, Emergency Management Director, will speak on the natural and man-made disasters faced in Wayne County and how CAREGIVER CLASS- Monday, July 27, 2026 / at 5:30pm / TOPIC: Dementia GEMS FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Therapeutic Alternatives Mental Health Specialty Team is offering a monthly education series designed to provide information for individuals providing care and support for a friend or family member. The program's goal is to strengthen skills, resilience and bolster the ability to nurture and support those for whom you care. A one-hour continuing education certificate will be available for each participant. Professionals, unpaid caregivers and family members are all welcome. Journey Together Caregiver Support Group / July 14 / 5:00pm Topic-Family Dynamics & Difficult Conversations /FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC The mission of the group is to create a safe welcoming space for caregivers – where we can foster support, education, friendship, and collaboration. The support group will be facilitated by Shawna Mullins, a Hospice Care Consultant with Gentiva Hospice of Goldsboro. to make yourself more prepared for them. Chris Barnes, ENP, 911 Director, will explain what someone can expect when they call 911. Karaoke / Tuesday, July 21, 10:45am / Come sing your heart out! Operation Fan Heat Relief Operation Fan Heat Relief (OFHR) is a summer program intended to provide a more comfortable living environment and to reduce heat related illnesses. Summertime can be a difficult and dangerous time for our seniors in Wayne County, especially when they do not have a means to keep their homes cool. Contributions from Duke Energy Progress make it possible for OFHR to provide fans to Wayne County Seniors at no cost that have a home situation where a threat to health and well-being exists. Fans are very limited through this funding. However, the Peggy Seegars Senior Center will gladly accept donated new fans or monetary donations to buy fans to distribute to seniors in need. For more information, you may contact Natasha Artis at 919-731- 1608. Deaf & Hard of Hearing Support Group / July 23 / 2:00pm Are you or a loved one hearing impaired? Simply meeting up with others, going through a similar struggle can be invaluable. The Senior Center will host the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Support Group, led by Jennifer Cabe of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH) on July 23rd from 2:00 to 3:30pm. Wayne County seniors are welcome to attend. The Senior Center is for Wayne County citizens aged 60 years and older. For an appointment to become a member, call H. Harris at 919-705-1784. Independence Day Social-July 2nd Celebrate July 4th a little early. Join us for a simple gathering to make the day feel special. Thursday, July 2nd at 11:30am. Senior Center Fundraiser Raffle Support your Senior Center by purchasing a ticket to win a Weber Charcoal Grill. Tickets will be on sale beginning May 27th and throughout June. The drawing will take place at our Independence Day Ice Cream Social on July 2nd. Tickets are $5.00 a ticket or $20.00 for 5 tickets. The public is welcome to purchase tickets. This Raffle is not limited to seniors. Would You Like to Take Part in a Research Study? On Tuesday, July 7th at 10:00am Nikole Galman, an ECU graduate, will speak about her Thesis Research Study on how the brain controls arm movements as we age.
