16 THE BUZZ AROUND WAYNE COUNTY NOVEMBER 2026 Thankful Today, Preserving Tomorrow By Jennifer Johnson As families gather around the Thanksgiving table this month, many of us will pause to reflect on our blessings. Among them is something we often take for granted: a safe, abundant and reliable food supply. In Wayne County, agriculture plays a special role in making Thanksgiving possible. The sweet potatoes that accompany holiday meals and the turkeys that serve as the centerpiece of family gatherings are products strongly connected to Wayne County's agricultural landscape. Behind every Thanksgiving feast are farmers who work year-round to produce the food that nourishes our families and com- munities. Agriculture is more than an industry in Wayne County. It is a cornerstone of our economy, a source of local pride, and an essential contrib- utor to our nation's food security. The farm- land surrounding us provides the resources needed to grow food today while supporting future generations of farmers. As we county our blessings this Thanksgiving, let us also recognize the importance of pre- serving our agricultural land and farming her- itage. By protecting these resources, we help ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the same abundance we celebrate today. This Thanksgiving, let us be thankful today and committed to preserving tomorrow. Thanks For The Simple Things By Pr. Bob McCanless In our 2007 hymnal is a new hymn; "Forgive us Lord, for shallow thankfulness." In reality, we could sing it EVERY Sunday, but it always pops up at the end of November. The month begins with All Saints, where we remember those faithfully departed this past year, giving thanks for their faithful lives & example. EVERY All Saints is poignant this side of heaven, but this one is in particular for me. My mom passed away last Nov.9, my dad back on Oct.20. I am reminded of Norman Rockwell's "Freedom from Want" painting – in the heart of the Great Depression & WWII, & the simpler times that mom, dad, & home represent. It's so easy to take them for granted when you have them, & impossible to replace when they're gone. Both celebrations in November should teach us to cherish most of our family & friends while they're here, & I pray we do – I will certainly be giving much more thanks this month, & I pray you do, too.
