Weatherization Assistance Presentation / Tuesday, October 20 / 10:30am / OPEN to the Public WAGES Weatherization Assistance Program is an energy conservation program with an emphasis on health and safety for low-income families and the elderly with disabilities. RaShonte Pettit and Shay'Onnia Tann will be here to explain the program along with some fun activities. Open Enrollment for Medicare D Open enrollment period for Medicare D is October 15 to December 7, 2026. Time to review your Medicare Prescription Drug Plan or Advantage Plan. Wayne County Services on Aging has SHIIP counselors who can help you. Counselors will be available on a first come, first served basis on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9:00 – 12:00 starting October 15 through December 7. State Senior Tarheel Legislature Update-OPEN to the Public Martha Bryan, STHL Delegate and Mary Stevens STHL Alternate for Wayne County will present an update on the latest session of the Legislature. Seniors will learn what recommendations are being made to our lawmakers concerning senior citizens. As part of this presentation, you will have an opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback Veterans Appreciation On Friday, November 6 at 10:00 am, the Senior Center will observe our Veterans. We invite our senior Veterans to attend so that we may honor you for your service. Civilians are welcome to come and show their appreciation. If you are a Veteran attending the ceremony, contact Bertha Darden 919- 731-1586 with your name, branch of service, rank, and phone number. We want to recognize you during the program. CHRISTMAS at The Max / Wednesday, December 2, 2026 Christmas at The Max requires a reservation. Active Senior Center members will receive tickets first; non-active members will be placed on a wait list. Beginning October 15, you may sign up yourself and spouse only, no friends. For reservations, call Lisa at 919- 731-1589. Lisa will not accept calls from the Front Desk phone. Leave a message with your name, the name of your spouse (who must also be an active member), and a phone number. Last day for reservations is Friday, November 13. Tickets can be picked up on Friday, November 20, Monday, November 23 or Tuesday, November 24 from 10am-12 noon. If you DO NOT pick your ticket up it will be forfeited. Tickets are non-transferable and the person who reserves the ticket must pick it up. and present any senior related concerns or issues to our representatives. Hard of Hearing Support Group / Thursday, October 22 - 2:00pm-3:30pm Are you or a loved one hearing impaired? Simply meeting up with others going through a similar struggle can be invaluable. The Senior Center will host the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Support Group, led by Jennifer Cabe of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH). Wayne County seniors are welcome to attend. CAREGIVER CLASS- Monday, October 26, 2026- 5:30pm / TOPIC: Breast Cancer in Mental Health. FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Therapeutic Alternatives Mental Health Specialty Team is offering a monthly education series designed to provide information for individuals providing care and support for a friend or family member. The program's goal is to strengthen skills, resilience and bolster the ability to nurture and support those for whom you care. A one-hour continuing education certificate will be available for each participant. Professionals, unpaid caregivers and family members are all welcome. Journey Together Caregiver Support Group / October 13 / 5:00pm Topic-Grief, Anticipatory Loss & Coping with Change /FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC The mission of the group is to create a safe welcoming space for caregivers – where we can foster support, education, friendship, and collaboration. The support group will be facilitated by Shawna Mullins, a Hospice Care Consultant with Gentiva Hospice of Goldsboro. The Senior Center is for Wayne County citizens aged 60 years and older. For an appointment to become a member, call H. Harris at 919-705-1784. The Center is CLOSED on Saturday, October 24, 2026, for our Shred-A-Thon. New winter hours begin Monday, November 2. We are open from 7:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8:30am- 12:00. SHRED-A-THON / October 24 / 9:00am-12 noon A community event where individuals can bring documents for secure, on-site shredding, free of charge. This event is organized and sponsored by Southern Bank and Trust and is held at the Peggy Seegars Senior Center. There is a five-bag maximum per vehicle, and we will only take paper. No discs, no binders or trash. Staples and paper clips DO NOT need to be removed. Binder clips MUST be removed prior to being brought to the event.
