5 THE BUZZ AROUND WAYNE COUNTY OCTOBER 2026 On September 12, 2026, Goldsboro's Coby White, who is a current NBA player with the Charlotte Hornets, alongside the Coby White Family Foundation (CWFF), returned to his hometown of Goldsboro, North Carolina to host a Youth Giveback Community Day. CWFF is dedicated to enhancing the mental well-being of Black and Brown youth and families in Eastern North Carolina and beyond. Coby has stated that he wants to continue finding ways to pave the way for the younger generation, and the event provided a meaningful opportunity to invest directly in the youth of his hometown through a day centered on connection, mentorship and inspiration. "I felt like the YMCA was such an important part of my journey. Honestly, I don't know if I would be where I am today without it. It gave me a place to go every day, play the game I loved, and meet so many people who became an important part of my life. Having the opportunity to host this event at the YMCA felt like the perfect way to give back to a place that gave so much to me." Coby White said during an on-air interview with 92.7 Jamz. As a Goldsboro native, the day was especially meaningful for Coby, who partnered with the Goldsboro Family YMCA, a place that played an important role in his childhood. The event provided a free day of programming for 150 local children and families, giving Coby the opportunity to return to the community that helped shape him while creating a positive and engaging experience for the next generation. The Youth Giveback Community Day brought the Goldsboro community together for an experience that extended far beyond basketball. A variety of local organizations, businesses, and partners joined Coby and CWFF in supporting the event, including Nike, Ballislife, Goldsboro Pediatric Dentist & Orthodontics, Wayne Community College, In The Click Photo Booth, State Employees Credit Union, NC Child, Darkness Rising, City Church of Goldsboro, Power Basketball, Manta Sleep, BePresent, Yo Momma Stacks, Smoothie Lab, Hot Diggity Dog, Shayla and Max Mozingo, Wayne County Sheriff Department, DJ Drop, Roderica Worrell, Quavoris Wellington, support from the Charlotte Hornets and Dishan Rhodes Photography and Focused on Eternity for capturing such a special day. Throughout the day, participants rotated through interactive stations inspired by CWFF's pillars of lasting mental health: resources, education, and culture. Activities were designed to encourage creativity, movement, confidence, and self-expression. Participants took part in basketball drills, collaborative mural painting, an art station for customizing hats and socks, artificial intelligence beat-making station, meditation, yoga and journal writing exercises that helped open conversations around mental health and emotional well-being. After the stations, the kids and their families headed outside for lunch from local food trucks and got to mix and mingle with Coby for photographs and autographs. The day concluded with a panel discussion featuring accomplished Goldsboro natives and community leaders, including Coby White, Pastor Terry Jones, Crystal Daniels, and Jh'Quan Dunn. Together, they shared their experiences and perspectives while discussing the importance of mental health, personal growth, and having a strong support system. CWFF also presented a donation to the YMCA, and every child left with a backpack filled with art supplies, a mental wellness book, a speaker, a Mantra sleep mask, a Ballislife beverage and a BePresent subscription. For Coby, the Youth Giveback Community Day was an opportunity to invest in the same community that invested in him. Through CWFF, he hopes to continue creating spaces where young people and families feel supported, inspired, and empowered to prioritize their mental well-being while recognizing the possibilities for their own futures.
