15 THE BUZZ AROUND WAYNE COUNTY APRIL 2026 For The Sake of theKids By Reverend Alan Shaw Many couples remain together "for the sake of the kids," hoping to provide stability or avoid financial strain. Often, they don't realize the marriage has faded until the children leave home, leaving an empty nest and a sense of loss. Some parents, shaped by difficult childhoods, devote themselves to giving their children every opportu- nity they missed. Yet, beneath these good intentions, a deeper issue can arise: making children the center of life, even above the marriage or faith. While wanting the best for our kids isn't wrong, prioritizing them above all else can turn them into idols, pushing aside ot her important relationships and spiritual priorities. When children become the focus, sacrifices of time and money create demands on a spouse. Unmet expectations lead to frustration, judgment, and emotional distance, which can ultimately end in divorce. There is a better way-reconciliation. By recogniz- ing our misplaced priorities, repenting, and seeking forgiveness from our spouse or children, we allow grace and healing to restore our rela- tionships. Reconciliation refocuses us on faith, strengthens marriages, and builds a culture of confession and forgiveness at home that our kids will learn to model in their families. Though marriage and parenting remain challeng- ing, using reconciliation tools can restore family wellness and model love for our children. And so, "for the sake of the kids", let's encourage reconciliation, building a legacy in marriage that outlasts our parenting and shapes what our children remember. BUILDING ART YOU CAN FEEL: BUILDING ART YOU CAN FEEL: JADEN LEE OPEN-DRIVEN JADEN LEE OPEN-DRIVEN STUDIO STUDIO Goldsboro mixed-media artist Jaden Lee is opening a new studio inside Jupiter Blue Salon and Art Gallery on Parkway Drive, creating a space dedicated to textured, sensory-driven art and community creativity. Lee's work blends portraiture with sculptural ma- terials such as fabric, modeling compounds, clay, and layered acrylic. Their process focuses heavily on texture, touch, and the physical experience of building a surface rather than simply painting one. To celebrate the opening of the studio, Lee will host a free children's sensory art workshop on April 25. The workshop will be intentionally small— limited to five children—to allow for a calm, hands-on experience where each child can explore materials at their own pace. Rather than choosing the easiest group to teach first, Lee intentionally chose the group that requires the most patience, softness, and pres- ence: little kids. Children are curious, emotional, messy, and won- derfully unpredictable. They are also the people who experience texture most deeply —something that aligns closely with the way Lee approaches art. The goal of the workshop is simple: to give kids another outlet to explore creativity freely, without pressure or consequence. "I want them to build, touch, and experiment," Lee said. "Art should feel like discovery." Anyone interested in the workshop or future classes can find information through the Jupiter Blue Salon and Art Gallery website at jupiterblue- salon.com Three Eagles Beer & Wine Festival Springs into Downtown Goldsboro The Three Eagles Beer & Wine festival returns to Downtown Goldsboro on Saturday, May 9th.
