APPLY TODAY 6 THE BUZZ AROUND WAYNE COUNTY September 2024 CREATE & DONATE CARD MAKING CLASS Thursday, September 19 from 2:00pm -3:30pm We would love for you to join us to make and donate handmade cards to people who are homebound or in the hospital. Cards will be made entirely by hand with kind and uplifting messages and drawings. Donna Moerie will instruct you on how to make the cards. HIKING GROUP Tuesday, September 17 at 11:00am we will meet at Cliffs of the Neuse Visitors Center. Please join Mark DeBruine and Barbara Sadler as they lead you through the cliffs for a fun hike. BEGINNER COMPUTER BASICS COURSE Beginner computer class with Paula Reich starts Monday, September 16th, 10:30am to noon and runs for 8 weeks. DRAMA CLUB / VOICES OF PRAISE PERFORMANCE September 24 at 2:00pm The Drama Club will present a comedic skit, The Tate Family, of personalities coming to life as a family portraying words ending in "tate". Voices of Praise will open the performance with their rendition of "God Made Me". WAYNE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT VACCINE CLINIC The Wayne County Health Department will be at the Senior Center to offer Flu, Shingles and Pneumonia vaccines on Thursday, September 26th from 9:00am to 2:00pm. STARLIGHT DANCE BAND Friday, September 27 from 6:30-8:30pm The Starlight Dance Band has over a dozen talented musicians and an impressive vocalist. They specialize in big band music from the 30's and 40's as well as hits that are more recent and they have a vast repertoire of musical favorites for your listening and dancing pleasure. This event is free to seniors 50 and older. HINNANT FAMILY DENTISTRY PRESENTS A FALL BALL An evening of fun and dressing your best for everyone. Put your dancing shoes on. The Fall Ball is set for Friday, October 4, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. Space for this event is limited and a reservation is required, please call Lisa at 919-731-1589. CRAFTING WITH VIVIAN & TONYA Craft painting is fun, relaxing, and inspiring. Projects will include painting wood, rocks, ceramics, and mugs. Our volunteers will assist you in your creation, help guide you when you feel stuck and make suggestions that will make the experience a memorable time as you create your own personal work of art. The program's goal is to strengthen your skills and resilience and bolster the ability to nurture and support those for whom you care. A one-hour continuing education certificate will be available for each participant. Class may be attended in-person or on Zoom. There is no charge or age requirement for this class. September is National Senior Center Month, and we have some great things planned: DISASTER PREPAREDNESS Tuesday, September 3rd at 10:45am Gary Tilman, Emergency Management Coordinator will be here to talk on how important it is to know what to do in case of an emergency well before the disaster strikes. Many older adults may face some challenges during an emergency and support services that are usually available, may be unavailable for a period. You need to be prepared by creating a plan. Mr. Tilman will walk you through the steps to create a plan.
