If you have any doubts of whether our future is in good hands, rest assure that it is! This group of students are smart, resourceful, and are willing to work to better our community. During this program, I had several con- versations with them about top issues facing youth in Wayne County. They opened my eyes to issues that the youth of today face. The group identified Mental Health as the top issue affecting youth in Wayne County. They also saw the connection between Mental Health and two other issues: Substance Use and participating in Opportunities. Every month we discussed these topics, researched them, and saw how they affected youth throughout the county. But not only did we talk about the problems, they offered solutions and ways You Cannot Put the Toothpaste Back in The Tube By Kriquette Davis There is a story that many of you have seen. It is about a parent asking their child to squeeze toothpaste out of a tube, then asking the child to put the toothpaste back in. "It's impossible!" says the child and the parent says "That is exactly right. So, remember that once words come out of your mouth, you cannot put them back in." We have all had that hap- pen before, haven't we? It can be something that was supposed to be a secret or a surprise, or hearsay/gossip, hateful words, or toxicity. Even though we are supposed to forgive, we do not have to forget. I have been transparent with most of my challenges, in hopes of helping others. The downside to that is people, often people that are supposed to care about you the most, use this information to hurl hurtful words at you or use the information to undermine you. And to add insult to injury, others will say things like "well you shouldn't have shared that then" I am so sick and tired of victims being blamed and shamed for everything. It happens All. The. Time. Oftentimes when you fight back, it makes it worse. So, when I encounter these types of people, no matter how close they are to me, they get ignored and pushed outside of my inner circle. Life is too short. Your peace is too important to let others destroy it for you. If they do, they are not your people, and never have been your people. Be a peace seeker. Do not allow these folks to engage you and get you to respond. Ain't nobody got time for that. Those folks have their own tribe of toxic folks that they belong with, and you surely do not want to be sitting at that table. Remembering Dad By Clara Barnes Costner Our earthly Father might be talkative, Or the silent type, with very little to say One that did not say he loved you, often You knew he loved you, anyway He was always a support system When you needed him, he was there All the things God had taught Him A man of wisdom, willing to share Dad might have been short in stature Tall and slim, or on the stout side No matter his appearance, did not matter His hue, or the color of his eyes We cannot forget the sound of his voice, Small things are hard to leave behind So many memories of him still linger, And will always seem so fresh in my mind He might have been your Grandfather Big brother or an uncle, instead God, uses whoever pleases Him So that you will not be misled God, our Heavenly Father, gave His Son The price for our sins has been paid He is the Father we turn to Before hard decisions are made Happy Father's Day "For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing." 1st Peter 3:17 KJV to impact the problems in order to better our community. This approach to advocacy and experiential learning, helped us see how they can make a positive impact on our communi- ty. At Spiron Solutions, we believe that hands-on learning opportunities force real knowledge and behavioral changes and can be implemented in the workplace and the community. We saw this firsthand through this program. Congratulations to each of the students that participated in this program! Through your eyes, I can see that our future is bright and in good hands.
