Elected officials, at every level, have thrown common sense out of the window and the media has chosen to shape the news rather than report it in a logical and truthful fashion. Now, I am coming to the point that will rile many of you I expect, and that is fine with me. For sure, it is our sacred right as Americans to respectively disagree with one another. As I see things, politicians from both sides of the aisle have to take ownership of our present dilemma. No one individual, one candidate, or one party, within themselves, could have possibly created the chaos, the incessive rhetoric witnessed in the hallowed chambers in our nation's capital, and the subsequent state of disrespect and lack of sensitivity that has saturated this great nation. Likewise, the media must assume an equal portion of the blame for the quagmire we are in. Media organizations, from both perspectives, refuse to print and report the news and leave it at that, and let the American public formulate their own opinions. Much of what we see, what we hear, and what we read is an insult to citizens of The United States of America. This madness, I am afraid, will extend well beyond March. Will my words make any difference? By themselves, of course not. But, if enough people voice their opinions, we can, and we will make a difference. The future of this nation rests in our hands, not in the politicians or reporter's hands. We must not fail. I am pleased to greet you fine citizens of Wayne County. The temperatures are rising and the rains subsiding as I pen this month's column for The Buzz. You probably would never guess, based on the simplicity of my words that much thought goes into my articles. I realize my words are not life changing and are most likely soon forgotten. However, I also know and understand, that words, either spoken or written, cannot be retracted once uttered or printed. I take very seriously the privilege to contribute to this fine publication and accept the ramifications that comes with such opportunity. As is always the case, with great opportunity comes great responsibility. The NCAA Basketball Tournament, starting with the play in games, has begun. Even the casual sports fan, much as it is with the Super Bowl, becomes caught up in the phenomena known as "March Madness." Millions of fans will fill out their brackets and predict the eventual national champion. A goodly portion of money will be wagered, an equal amount of work will be neglected, dreams will be shattered, and tempers will rise to a fever pitch before the dust settles in early April and a champion crowned. It is amazing and mind staggering the amount of time, money, energy, and attention that is allotted this annual affair. It most certainly speaks to our priorities and our devotion to those causes we value and hold dear. For the past several years, our country has been enthralled in great civil conflict and unrest. I am not here today, to point fingers and assign blame. If that were my intention, I would scarcely know where to begin. From my perspective, it has become FROM THE PIG PEN WILL MARCH MADNESS LINGER? Dan Wroblewski, Owner, Publisher A Publication of: Media Publishing, LLC This is a special month for those of us in the Habitat for Humanity community. All across the country, as the calendar and the temperatures turn away from winter and people begin to think about sprucing up their houses, making necessary repairs and doing a bit of spring cleaning, we find people are reminded that their home is the key to so much in their lives. That's why Habitat for Humanity has given April the theme, "Home is the Key." It's a chance for us to reflect on how a safe, stable and affordable home can unlock a better future for a family. It's a chance to think about how much better children can perform in school when they have a safe and stable home in which to do homework. It's a chance to realize that safe and decent homes can lead to better health outcomes with fewer chronic problems. And it's a chance to reflect on how much better parents can perform in the workplace when they have a stable and affordable home to return to each night. Home is the key. Spend some time with those four words this month. Together, let's take a moment as we sit down to eat dinner, or lay down in our beds, or watch our children play in our yards, and think about what that key has unlocked for us and our families. Then let's consider how we can give families a chance to unlock their own futures as they seek to build better futures for themselves on foundations of strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable housing.
